ELISA PILIA

Elisa is an Assistant Professor of Restoration at the University of Cagliari and a Conservator of Architectural and Environmental Heritage. She holds a PhD in Civil Engineering and Architecture, developed with the Scottish Center for Conservation Studies at the University of Edinburgh, and a Specialization in Architectural and Landscape Heritage from the University of Naples Federico II.

Her research explores how historical built heritage can find new life in the present by integrating tangible and intangible values through a transdisciplinary approach that combines historical, architectural, and material perspectives. She studies ruins, archaeological sites, disused military complexes, religious architecture, and abandoned villages, applying diagnostic and archaeometric methods to define construction chronologies and conservation strategies.

Her work also addresses the theory and history of restoration, focusing on twentieth-century Italian practitioners, and explores the integration of digital tools and HBIM technologies to improve documentation, analysis, and project design. Through the intersection of tradition and innovation, Elisa seeks to connect scientific research and cultural understanding, promoting sustainable approaches to heritage conservation.
